WVD Architectural Overview

WVD Architectural Overview:

The task of a control plane is to orchestrate the creation and management of desktop and application session hosts, authenticate users, and determine where to “download” the user’s desktop connection (determine which desktop VM to lick the user to which desktop VM).
In the RDS world, a number of these “RDS roles” were addressed: RD License Server, RD Web, RD Webclient, RD Connection Broker, and RD Gateway.
With WVD you no longer need to install and manage any of these roles as they are part of the wvd management service. Microsoft does this job and provides you with RestAPI, PowerShell, and soon a PaaS product that can be controlled via the Azure admin portal.

Customers can access Windows 10 single and multi-session and Windows 7 with Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) if they have one of the following licenses:

Customers can access Windows Virtual Desktop from non-Windows Pro endpoints if they have Microsoft 365 A3/A5 or Windows 10 VDA per use.

Server

Customers can access Server workloads with Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) if they have one of the following licenses:

RDS CAL license with active Software
Assurance (SA)
